Alice Bernstein Shihan Alice Bernstein

Hachidan - 8th Degree Black Belt


Alice Bernstein was one of the first students of the BSKC in 1978 and through dedicated training has advanced to her present rank. A seasoned competitor, instructor and trustee of the Barbados Shotokan Karate Club, she is a graduate of the ISKF Instructor Program and holds the designation of  International Karate Daigaku A-Class Instructor, A-Class Judge, and A-Class Examiner. She has been awarded "Instructor of the Year" in 2008, 2009 and 2010, and continues to teach and mentor students of the club. Shihan Alice Bernstein is also the highest ranked woman within the Caribbean Reigon where she is very highly respected for her karate knowledge and physical ability.  She is also a member of the Shihan-Kai (Technical Committe ) of the International Karate Daigaku.

 

Paul Bernstein Shihan Paul Bernstein

Hachidan - 8th Degree Black Belt


A founding member and trustee of the Barbados Shotokan Karate Club, Shihan Paul Bernstein started karate in January of 1973 and has been a major influence in the development of karate as well as the club over the years. Shihan Paul Bernstein is a graduate of the ISKF Instructor Program and now holds the designation of International Karate Daigaku A-Class Instructor, A-Class Judge, and A-Class Examiner. He has been elected President of the Barbados Karate Association for the past 28 years and his adminstrative skills have led to the success of  the Barbados Karate Association and the development of karate in Barbados. He is also a member of the Shihan-Kai (Technical Committee) of the International Karate Daigaku.

Gerard King Shihan Gerard King
Kenshusei Instructor
Shichidan - 7th Degree Black Belt

Gerard King started Shotokan karate in 1978 and has a long and enviable record, having successfully represented Barbados from 1984 until 2008 when he retired from competition. He was the Coach of the Barbados team from 2008 - 2009. Gerard is a qualified IKD B-class Instructor, C-class Examiner and a A-Class Judge.

 

Michael Williams Shihan Michael Williams

Kenshusei Instructor
Shichidan - 7th Degree Black Belt

Michael Williams, a trustee of the BSKC, started Shotokan karate in 1978 and currently holds the rank of 7th Dan and International C-Class Judge. He has successfully represented Barbados at numerous tournaments from 1982 to 2000,  and has since retired from competition-level training. Michael was the coach of the Barbados Team in 2010. 

 

David Clarke Sensei David Clarke

IKD President
Rokudan - 6th Degree Black Belt

David Clarke started karate at the Queen's College dojo in 1978 and joined the BSKC two years later. He has represented Barbados on several occasions and was a member of the first Barbados team to compete at the World tournament in Japan. He joined the Instructor Trainee programme in 1993 and currently holds the rank of IKD Class C Instructor, Class C Examiner and International B-Class Judge. He is also the President of the International Karate Daigaku.

 

Cameron King Sensei Cameron King
Kenshusei Instructor
Rokudan - 6th Degree Black Belt
 
Cameron King began his Shotokan training in 1988 and was a member of the Barbados team during the period 1993 - 2009. During that period he captured many titles including Kumite Champion at the Caribbean, Pan American, and World level. He is currently the reigning World Kumite Champion, a kenshusei instructor with Class B qualification, a class C Examiner and an International A-Class Judge.

 

Godfrey Dacoteau Godfrey Dacoteau

Kenshusei Instructor
Godan - 5th Degree Black Belt

Godfrey Dacoteau has been training Shotokan karate since 1972 and represented Barbados during the period 1976 - 1989. He is  a member of the IKD Kenshusei Instructor  program and an International D-Class Judge.
